President's Message

WELCOME to the Canadian chapter of the Barbados Labour Party!!!

We are appreciative of your time and hope that we can build the infrastructure where you can use this platform as a one stop shop for all things Barbados.

We aim as an inclusive unit to champion the mantra of our Prime Minister, Mia Amor Mottley, that “Many hands make light work,” as we strive to manage programs and services beneficial to our people.

You may read about our good friend Alex Waithe, a true son of our soil and the work he did here in Canada and Barbados until his passing in 2021. I was personally ecstatic when the board approved a scholarship (for the Arts) in his honour.

We also wish to create forums related to healthcare and build a database for social assistance in our community.

There are many ways for you to become involved in this diasporic space.

1) Become a member. This allows you to play an active role in the organization, where you will have voting privileges, apply to sit on a committee and/or board and help chart the course to our objectives. Everyone has a part to play and can contribute to our success, for example, you may be proficient in carpentry which can assist with décor at an event, or maybe you like research, and can help us find the best pricing for a product or service. We welcome your skills, time and experience, there is space for all.

2) Join our Facebook group and/or our Facebook page or follow us on Instagram, so we can share information important to us, events, initiatives, news, etc. Remember, it takes a village….so tell a friend.

3) Monetary Donation to the cause

4) Sponsorship or Advertising

We are excited about 2024 and beyond in the 85th year since the founding of the party. Stay tuned for events which may benefit you, and our brothers and sisters in Barbados.

Sincerely,

David “Sugah” Conliffe-Layne

President
